Treatment Services and Aftercare
The Neurobehavioral inpatient program provides each patient a thorough evaluation including:
- Neuropsychiatric examination and medication recommendations
- Neuropsychological tests
- Psychosocial evaluation
- Neurophysiological assessment (Cognitrace Complex EEG and Evoked Potentials)
Following this comprehensive assessment, the patient undergoes medical stabilization and therapeutic interventions, along with specialized behavioral management.
This includes the following:
- Medication management
- Behavioral therapies
- Neurobehavioral milieu (similar to that found in a head injury facility)
- Individual therapy (modified for neurological disorders)
- Group therapy
- Family therapy
- Experiential therapy
- Case management
- Individualized treatment plan
Aftercare planning begins at admission and is modified as required during treatment. Included is information to assist with educational or vocational planning, strategies for counseling and psychotherapy, and additional support services required. Information for the receiving physician includes brain disorder findings and the rationale for discharge medication.
The family are asked for permission to follow the child’s progress through the year after discharge through Outcome Questionnaires. Participation is voluntary. Questionnaires are mailed to parents at one month. six month and one year intervals after discharge from Meridell. A child’s parents are asked whether aggressive behaviors are present, if medication has changed and whether the patient has been re-hospitalized. Data collected is kept strictly confidential and allows tracking of treatment effectiveness.
